The Hacker is a central figure in electronic music, known for his innovative fusion of Techno and EBM and as one of the founding architects of Electroclash in the early 2000s. Emerging from Grenoble in the mid-1990s, Michel Amato developed a sharp, futuristic sound that has influenced multiple generations of producers and DJs.
He gained international recognition through his collaboration with Miss Kittin, with seminal tracks such as 1982 and Frank Sinatra becoming defining statements of their era. Their latest collaborative album was released in 2023, followed by an extensive world tour. His landmark album Rêves Mécaniques further cemented his status, establishing a colder, more cinematic approach to machine music that remains influential today.
In recent years, as club culture entered a new phase, The Hacker’s raw, physical and uncompromising sound has taken on renewed relevance. With recent releases on Rekids and Phantasy, alongside earlier work on iconic labels such as Dark Entries, Mannequin Records and Turbo, and continued international touring, DJ The Hacker remains a vital and forward-moving presence in contemporary electronic music.
